"If wishes were horses
Beggars would ride
All dreams and desires would ride alongside
Worries and troubles would fall off behind
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride…"

Positive affirmations are one of the highest forms of meditation. These ancient “wishing words” change attitudes, feelings and situations.
What is a Positive Affirmation?

Positive affirmations are a combination of the power of the mind-body-spirit dynamic. Soul wishes are activated when they are voiced. The conscious mind impresses the unconscious to effect changes, through repetition (or meditation) of a key phrase.
In many ways, the use of positive affirmations is a form of spoken meditation. Remember the chanting of ancient religions? Or the vocal litany and repetitions of monks and nuns of all religions? Each positive affirmation reinforces a positive vision of your life.
Positive affirmations are declarative positive statements you say to yourself to counteract negative beliefs and thoughts. These are the things we tell ourselves to change our self-image.
When we make the intentional effort to change our lives, we are invigorating our positive energy. This is a key component used to teach us how to let go of self-limiting and harmful beliefs, which are deeply rooted in our unconscious mind.
How Does This Work?

Our subconscious operates 24 hours a day. Even when the conscious mind is hard at work trying to process every sight, sound, and smell that surrounds us, the unconscious mind is running in the background trying to make sense of it all.
And when the conscious mind is fast asleep, the subconscious mind comes out to play in our dreams. Sometimes we have psychic or karmic dreams. Keep in mind that the soul operates on one level or another at all times.
The ever logical and analytical conscious mind reacts to facts and evidence. The more emotional and spiritual unconscious mind is always reacting to both positive and negative experiences and telling us how we feel, and most importantly, what is real!
The unconscious mind is the place where our deepest beliefs dwell. It is a great truth and a little understood fact that our beliefs (both positive and negative) can be changed through the unconscious mind.
Here's how it works. Our belief systems and feelings are embedded in the unconscious mind. Our conscious mind creates our reality based on information received from the unconscious. The reality of your life will be molded by the dynamics between the two.
You can change your reality by simply changing your unconscious beliefs. The easiest and most powerful way to accomplish this is through positive affirmations. Here are three steps you can take within 60 days to literally change your mind and change your life.
The 3 Step Plan

1. Write Your Positive Affirmations
The first step is to decide exactly what you want to affirm. What you need to transform in yourself. At the end of this article, there is a list of suggested affirmations. Choose five as your own. You may personalize them and add detail. You are going to be repeating these 2 to 3 times daily, so keep the positive affirmations short and direct.
You can write your affirmations in your journal, on index cards or on a vision board. Always write them down. Always refer back to the written statements when you say your positive affirmations daily.
If you have them on index cards, it may be a good idea to make an extra set and post them where you will see them often (on your mirror, the car visor, or on your refrigerator).
2. Read Them at Least 2 to 3 Times a Day
Take our your written positive affirmations every morning before your day gets busy, and every night before you go to sleep. Speak the positive affirmations out loud.
Say them with confidence. The beginning of the changes you want to make start when you vocalize your new truths that define who you are becoming.
It is also powerful to repeat the positive affirmations aloud when you see them in your car or on your refrigerator. Repeat the positive affirmations out loud at least twice a day (more if possible).
3. Create Matching Visuals
When you take the time to vocalize your affirmations, the energy begins to shift and the positive changes you wish to manifest draw towards you.
Just as your voice is the first key to opening the door to a new “self-image”, visuals can also help train the unconscious in a new direction.
You can make a vision board, or just cut out images of what you want to be or have. For instance, if you are trying to get healthy, get an image of the gym or healthy people. This creates momentum to go with the action of repeating and writing your positive affirmations every day. You need to be reviewing the images when you are saying your positive affirmations.
These changes you are making are deep and permanent. It will take repetition, commitment and time. You will amaze yourself at 30 days. Your attitude, energy and reality will be changing dramatically when you reach the halfway point. Continue to say and visualize your positive affirmation 2 to 3 times a day for 60 days.
